Continue driving 10 minutes north to visit the largest surviving medieval bishop\u2019s house in Scotland, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitscotland.com\/info\/see-do\/spynie-palace-p247121\">Spynie Palace<\/a>, and its David tower. Within another 10 minutes\u2019 drive you will reach the impressive medieval stronghold of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecastlesofscotland.co.uk\/the-best-castles\/magnificent-ruins\/duffus-castle\/\">Duffus Castle<\/a>.<\/p><p>Instead of going north from Elgin, you can continue driving southwest for 15 minutes and visit the beautiful and secluded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pluscardenabbey.org\/\">Pluscarden Abbey<\/a>, the only medieval monastery used for its original purpose in the UK (where Catholic Benedictine monks sing every day the mass).<\/p><p>If you choose to drive past Elgin on the A96 towards Inverness, you might want to visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nts.org.uk\/visit\/places\/brodie-castle\">Brodie Castle<\/a>, surrounded by daffodils, and have a break in the nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brodiecountryfare.com\/\">Brodie Countryfare<\/a>, where you can shop and eat. On the way to Inverness there are many other historical sites to visit, such as the 14<sup>th<\/sup> century <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cawdorcastle.com\/\">Cawdor Castle<\/a> with its three gardens and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nts.org.uk\/visit\/places\/culloden\">Culloden Battlefield<\/a> (with a visitor centre), where the 1745 Jacobite Rising ended.<\/p><p><em>East of Duke Cottage<\/em><\/p><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.historicenvironment.scot\/visit-a-place\/places\/duff-house\/\">Duff House<\/a> (a Georgian mansion displaying collections from the National Galleries of Scotland) is located 40 minutes\u2019 drive north-east via A98. If you choose to continue another 35 minutes east, you can watch the coastline of the North Sea from the viewpoint of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.historicenvironment.scot\/visit-a-place\/places\/kinnaird-head-castle-lighthouse-and-the-museum-of-scottish-lighthouses\/\">Kinnaird Head Castle Lighthouse<\/a> and visit <a href=\"https:\/\/lighthousemuseum.org.uk\/\">its Museum of Scottish Lighthouses<\/a>. Continue driving 10 minutes north to visit the largest surviving medieval bishop\u2019s house in Scotland, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitscotland.com\/info\/see-do\/spynie-palace-p247121\">Spynie Palace<\/a>, and its David tower. Within another 10 minutes\u2019 drive you will reach the impressive medieval stronghold of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecastlesofscotland.co.uk\/the-best-castles\/magnificent-ruins\/duffus-castle\/\">Duffus Castle<\/a>.<\/p><p>Instead of going north from Elgin, you can continue driving southwest for 15 minutes and visit the beautiful and secluded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pluscardenabbey.org\/\">Pluscarden Abbey<\/a>, the only medieval monastery used for its original purpose in the UK (where Catholic Benedictine monks sing every day the mass).<\/p><p>If you choose to drive past Elgin on the A96 towards Inverness, you might want to visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nts.org.uk\/visit\/places\/brodie-castle\">Brodie Castle<\/a>, surrounded by daffodils, and have a break in the nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brodiecountryfare.com\/\">Brodie Countryfare<\/a>, where you can shop and eat. On the way to Inverness there are many other historical sites to visit, such as the 14<sup>th<\/sup> century <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cawdorcastle.com\/\">Cawdor Castle<\/a> with its three gardens and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nts.org.uk\/visit\/places\/culloden\">Culloden Battlefield<\/a> (with a visitor centre), where the 1745 Jacobite Rising ended.<\/p><p><em>East of Duke Cottage<\/em><\/p><p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.historicenvironment.scot\/visit-a-place\/places\/duff-house\/\">Duff House<\/a> (a Georgian mansion displaying collections from the National Galleries of Scotland) is located 40 minutes\u2019 drive north-east via A98. If you choose to continue another 35 minutes east, you can watch the coastline of the North Sea from the viewpoint of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.historicenvironment.scot\/visit-a-place\/places\/kinnaird-head-castle-lighthouse-and-the-museum-of-scottish-lighthouses\/\">Kinnaird Head Castle Lighthouse<\/a> and visit <a href=\"https:\/\/lighthousemuseum.org.uk\/\">its Museum of Scottish Lighthouses<\/a>. On the way back from Duff House, if you add 10 minutes to your drive, you can visit the small medieval <a href=\"https:\/\/www.historicenvironment.scot\/visit-a-place\/places\/deskford-church\/\">Deskford Church<\/a>.<\/p><p><em>Southeast of Duke Cottage<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p><p>Around 30 minutes\u2019 drive south-east on the A96 is the beautiful ruins of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visitscotland.com\/info\/see-do\/huntly-castle-p248731\">Huntly Castle<\/a>.
